Tim Martin, the founder and chairman of one of the United Kingdom’s largest pub chains, Wetherspoon, is reportedly set to be knighted in the upcoming New Year Honours list for his significant contributions to the business world. Martin’s journey began in 1979 when he founded Wetherspoon with a single pub in London. Since then, the chain has expanded significantly, boasting nearly 900 sites across the UK, known for offering budget-friendly meals and drinks.
Tim Martin has not only made a mark in the hospitality industry but has also been recognized for his active involvement in politics. He gained prominence as “one of the most high-profile supporters” of Brexit, frequently seen campaigning alongside former Prime Minister Boris Johnson during the EU referendum, as reported by MailOnline.
Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch is said to have supported Martin’s candidacy for knighthood, arguing that successful entrepreneurs who backed Brexit should not be overlooked by the Establishment. Nigel Farage, former MEP and a well-known public figure, praised Tim Martin as a “larger-than-life character” and an “entrepreneur to his fingertips,” emphasizing his significant contributions.
Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, another prominent political figure, expressed his delight at the news, saying, “Tim not only was brave enough to take up the political cudgels in support of the majority of the British people, but he also brings daily cheer to people’s lives through the good value provided by his pubs.
