In a shocking incident, a Metropolitan Police officer, PC Samuel Addy, allegedly threatened nightclub bouncers with a photo of a firearm after being denied entry due to his intoxicated state. The incident, which took place on March 6, 2022, was brought before a Met Police misconduct hearing on December 21, 2023.
PC Samuel Addy, who was off-duty at the time, had been on a night out and was reportedly heavily intoxicated due to binge drinking before attempting to gain entry to the nightclub. When his entry was refused, the situation took a disturbing turn.
In a startling display, PC Addy presented a photograph of a gun to the club’s bouncers, accompanied by the menacing statement, “Look back in the day, you wouldn’t mess with me.” However, the hearing was informed that the bouncers remained unfazed by this action, responding with a dismissive attitude.
Subsequently, the police were called to the scene, where PC Addy’s behaviour took another concerning turn. He allegedly slapped a colleague’s hands twice while menacingly warning, “Do not touch me because I will lay you out,” according to testimony presented before the misconduct panel.
Following a thorough examination of the evidence, the panel reached a verdict that PC Addy’s actions amounted to gross misconduct. They noted, “Firstly, he showed the picture of the gun and made the accompanying implicit threat to gain entry into the club, which was to his advantage. Secondly, his behaviour persisted for approximately 8 minutes, even when it should have been clear to him, based on the responses from both the police and members of the public, that his behaviour was entirely inappropriate.”
Although PC Samuel Addy had already resigned from the Metropolitan Police, it was determined that had he still been in service, he would have been dismissed without notice.
