Specialist Unit cracks down on St James’s Street drug trade

The Specialist Enforcement Unit (SEU) swooped in Brighton’s St James’s Street area, targeting rampant drug trafficking. On January 4, officers spotted suspicious activity hinting at drug deals.

Two arrests, drugs and cash seized

The SEU’s patrols led to two arrests in separate cases. They seized a stash of Class A drugs and a haul of cash, all set for confiscation.

Shy Ponsonby-Way, 18, charged over serious drug offences

One suspect, 18-year-old Shy Ponsonby-Way, previously of Brighton, was caught and taken into police custody. The Brighton Community Investigation Team charged him with possession with intent to supply heroin, crack cocaine, cannabis, and possession of illegal property.

Ponsonby-Way appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on January 5. He was granted bail ahead of a Crown Court hearing in Lewes on February 2.

Second suspect probe underway

Meanwhile, police continue to investigate a second suspect linked to a separate incident.
