Tragedy struck on the A303 this morning as a collision between a car and an HGV led to the untimely death of a woman.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the incident on the eastbound carriageway near Stonehenge, shortly before 10 am.
The collision involved an HGV and a car, resulting in the unfortunate demise of the female driver of the car, a woman in her 60s hailing from Bath. Regrettably, she lost her life at the scene of the accident.
The next of kin of the deceased have been notified, and they are receiving support from a specially trained officer during this incredibly challenging time. Our heartfelt thoughts go out to them as they grapple with this loss.
Fortunately, the driver of the HGV emerged from the incident unharmed.
In response to the collision, a road closure was enacted at the Countess roundabout and Longbarrow roundabout, which remains in effect as the investigation proceeds.
