Paedophile Stephen Pyle Jailed for 17 Years Over Child Sex Abuse in Chatham
Stephen Pyle, 66, exploited children who played truant at his Chatham home back in 1998. He provided alcohol and drugs, then started grooming one youngster with massages that soon turned indecent.
Decade-Long Nightmare Comes to Light
Over two years, Pyle committed multiple sexual offences against the child. The victim finally spoke out in 2017 to a trusted person, who alerted the police. Pyle was arrested on November 2 that year.
Shocking Discovery of Indecent Images
Officers seized Pyle’s desktop, uncovering 17 illegal images of children, including three in the most serious category. A subsequent laptop search revealed another 34 abhorrent photos, five of top severity. This led to a second arrest.
Justice Served at Maidstone Crown Court
Pyle faced charges including child rape, indecent assault, and making indecent photographs. Despite pleading not guilty, he was convicted on all counts. On September 9, 2024, Maidstone Crown Court sentenced him to 17 years in prison.
He will serve an extra four years on licence after release and will be under an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Constable Nick Pebody, Medway Vulnerability Investigation Team, slammed Pyle as “a depraved and cowardly individual.” He urged other victims to come forward, saying: “We have specially trained officers who will listen sensitively and bring abusers to justice.”
