Peaky Blinders Star Paul Anderson Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges

Paul Anderson, best known for his role as Arthur Shelby in the hit BBC series Peaky Blinders, has made headlines after pleading guilty to drug-related charges. The actor, who has garnered fame for his portrayal of the intense character, appeared in court on Thursday, January 26, where he admitted to possessing illegal substances.

Anderson was apprehended by the police in Hampstead, London, after being found in possession of a Class A drug, later confirmed to be cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia for smoking. Additionally, he admitted to having a Class B amphetamine and two Class C prescription substances.

The incident unfolded after Anderson visited a local pub, where the manager reported detecting the smell of crack cocaine coming from the disabled toilet after the actor’s visit. Subsequently, Anderson was taken to a police station, where officers discovered the illegal substances in his possession.

During his police interview, Anderson chose to respond with ‘no comment’ to all questions. It was later revealed that he had tested positive for opiates and cocaine, rather than the originally suspected crack cocaine.

In court, Anderson’s lawyer acknowledged his client’s recognition due to his role in Peaky Blinders, suggesting that he sometimes “slips into” his character, Arthur Shelby, to please fans. The lawyer stated, “He was recognized that Boxing Day and tried to play up for these people. And because of the lifestyle he leads, people often give him inducements.

Expressing regret, Anderson’s lawyer added, “He has found himself in an unfortunate position and should have had the strength to say no.”

The Peaky Blinders star was ultimately fined £1,345 as a consequence of his guilty pleas in Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, January 25.

The Metropolitan Police provided a statement regarding the incident, confirming that Anderson had been charged with two counts of possession of Class A drugs and two counts of possession of Class C drugs. The arrest took place on December 26, 2023, in Camden, London.
