Predator Busted After Online Sting by Vigilante Group
Kevin Wilkes, 57, from Prescot, was hauled back before the courts on shocking charges of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child. The twisted plot was exposed thanks to the eagle-eyed online vigilante gang, the Newcastle Hunters, who nabbed him in a sting operation.
Past Conviction Haunts Wilkes
Wilkes is no stranger to the law, having been convicted of indecent assault against a child back in 1984. This time, the online chat that he thought was with a child was actually a trap set by the Newcastle Hunters. Police officers swooped in, making the arrest amidst cheers from over 20 local residents gathered outside his home.
Back in Court and Locked Up
Wilkes appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court today, where he was denied bail and remanded in custody. His next hearing is scheduled for March 14, 2024, at Liverpool Crown Court, where the full extent of the case will be examined.
Community Vigilance Remains Key
This case shines a harsh spotlight on the importance of community action and online vigilance in protecting vulnerable youngsters. It also highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to keep communities safe from predators and criminals alike.
