Eastbourne locals with garages and outbuildings are being urged to beef up security. Police have flagged a rise in thefts, especially targeting pricey bicycles stashed in sheds and garages across the town.
Two Suspects Caught After Break-Ins on Cliff and Pashley Roads
Following a string of break-ins on Cliff Road and Pashley Road on February 10th and 11th, cops arrested a 20-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy from Crowborough. Both face charges of preparing to commit burglary.
The pair are now out on conditional bail as the investigation continues. Their next hearing is set for May 11th.
Police Issue Security Tips to Beat Burglars
Inspector Sarah Taylor from the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team said:
“We’re very aware of how these thefts are affecting the community. We’re working hard to tackle the problem and urge everyone to check their garages and outbuildings are secure. Please report any suspicious activity to police, quoting Operation Dismount.”
Here’s how to keep your property safe:
- Lock outbuildings with solid padlocks; consider alarms.
- Install CCTV cameras to keep an eye on things.
- Hide valuables under sheets or blankets to avoid attracting attention.
- Move expensive items to safer spaces if possible.
- Regularly check your garage and sheds for signs of tampering.
Police Seek CCTV Footage from Key Areas
Anyone with info is urged to report online or call 101, referencing Operation Dismount. Officers also want CCTV or Ring doorbell footage from Cliff Road and Pashley Road between 10pm on February 10 and 6am on February 11.
