Teen Shot After Moped Crash in Brixton – Shooter Jailed for Nearly 18 Years
Christian Assi, 20, from Lewisham, has been slammed with a hefty 17 years and 10 months behind bars for a brutal shotgun attack on a teenager in Brixton. The victim was deliberately knocked off his moped by a car before Assi blasted him in the arm. His accomplice, 53-year-old Edmund Sido, a nomad with no fixed address, got a much lighter sentence of just two years and nine months.
Deliberate Crash Sparks Terrifying Attack
The violent incident happened on May 12, 2022, at around 7:15 pm on Brixton Hill SW2. Assi was a passenger in a Range Rover chasing the victim’s moped. The driver rammed the 18-year-old rider off his bike on purpose. With the victim sprawled on the road, Assi jumped out carrying an unlicensed shotgun.
He fired the weapon, striking the teenager’s arm. The wound was so severe it demanded emergency surgery.
Shotgun Hand-Off Caught on CCTV
After the attack, Assi fled carrying the shotgun. CCTV showed him pausing briefly in a doorway to hand the gun to Sido. The older man then slipped into a nearby block of flats and later emerged empty-handed.
Justice Served: Assi and Sido Sentenced
Police caught Assi on June 8, 2022. A search of his home uncovered clothes he wore during the shooting. He was convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, grievous bodily harm, and owning a shotgun without a licence. His total sentence was 17 years and 10 months.
Sido pleaded guilty on March 13, 2023, to possession of the shotgun and was handed a 33-month prison term.
