Police are appealing for assistance from the public in identifying a man following a violent attack in Hackney that left the victim with severe injuries.

The incident occurred around 22:45hrs on 20 July 2023 when the victim, a man in his 50s, observed an individual stealing his jacket from his car parked outside his residence in Britannia Walk. When the victim refused to provide the thief with a lift, the suspect absconded with the jacket. However, he soon returned and proceeded to physically assault the victim by punching and kicking him.

The victim sustained serious injuries, including a fractured cheekbone and nose, as well as lacerations to his eye, necessitating hospitalisation for over a month.

Detectives from Central East CID initiated an investigation into the matter, conducting extensive inquiries such as reviewing CCTV footage, exploring forensic evidence, and interviewing multiple witnesses. However, these efforts have not led to the identification of a suspect thus far.

Investigating officer DS Rhiannon Essam stated, “This incident was extremely distressing for the victim and left him with serious injuries that saw him hospitalised for more than a month. We continue with our efforts to find the person responsible and are now asking the public to help us identify the man in this footage who we would like to speak to.”

Authorities have released an image of the individual they wish to speak with in connection to the attack.

Anyone who recognises the individual in the image or possesses any information relevant to the case is urged to contact the police on 101 or via ‘X’ @MetCC, quoting CAD 8907/20JUL23. Alternatively, individuals can provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
