Hero Cop Stops Brutal Attack in Ilford
An off-duty Met police chief inspector showed guts and quick thinking by stopping an assault on a woman in Ilford. The suspect is now charged and behind bars.
Officer Acts Fast on The Drive
The officer, part of the Royalty and Specialist Protection Command, was driving with family past The Drive on Sunday, 17 March. Spotting the attack, he jumped out and tackled the assailant without hesitation.
Both the officer and the suspect were hurt in the struggle. The brave cop suffered serious injuries to his arm and face and is currently being treated in hospital.
Suspect Charged with GBH and Strangulation
The 19-year-old attacker was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm and intentional strangulation. He’s in custody awaiting his first Crown Court hearing.
Chief Superintendent Richard Smith praised the officer’s courage, saying, “This 123 we can as he recovers from his injury.”
Additional Arrest After 999 Call
Backup officers responding to the 999 call arrested the suspect on suspicion of threats to kill, assault, and breaching court bail.
The woman victim did not need hospital treatment but is receiving police support.
