DVLA Makes Licence Renewal and Provisional Licence Applications a Breeze
The DVLA has just made it easier for UK drivers. From 9 April 2024, motorists can now renew the photo on their driving licence and apply for their first provisional licence online through the Driver and Vehicles Account service.
Over 890,000 Signed Up as Digital Services Expand
These are two of the most popular licence transactions handled by the link="linked">DVLA. They are the latest additions to the Driver and Vehicles Account, which has already attracted more than 890,000 users in less than a year since launch.
The service also lets users opt for text or email reminders for vehicle tax instead of traditional paper letters. Motorists can now complete a full 10-year photocard driving licence renewal online, track their applications, and view their new licences once issued.
Personalise Your Licence with Your Own Photo or Use Your Passport Snap
Drivers can upload their own photo or let the DVLA use their passport photo by tapping into a secure link with HM Passport Office. This move is part of the DVLA’s wide digital overhaul, aiming to make online services so slick that people prefer them over postal options.
Provisional Licence Holders Get More Perks
New drivers holding provisional licences can now view their licence details and add vehicles online. This boost comes after commercial drivers gained access to view their Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and tachograph data last October via the same online account.
Officials Praise Simpler, More Accessible Licence Services
Guy Opperman, Minister for Roads and Local Transport, said: “Renewing your driving licence should be an easy, accessible, straightforward process so that motorists can continue to drive safely. That’s why it’s great to see DVLA offer motorists the opportunity to renew their driving licence and apply for a first provisional licence all in one place, as DVLA continues to evolve into an increasingly dynamic, digital, and customer-centric organisation.”
Julie Lennard, DVLA Chief Executive, added: “We are pleased to say that two of our most popular services are now available through our Driver and Vehicles Account, providing even more convenience for our customers. We want to make transacting with us as simple and streamlined as possible, which is why we will continue to add more features and services so that our customers can get what they need from DVLA quicker and easier than ever before.”
UK and non-UK passport holders (with valid online immigration status) can set up their account today and test the new service.
