Luxury Car Crime Gang Busted! £2 Million Swiped in High-End Heist

A ruthless organised crime gang has been smashed after raking in over £2 million by stealing luxury cars, including jaw-dropping Porsches, sleek Mercedes, and flashy BMWs.

Fake IDs and Fraud: The High-Stakes Car Theft Scheme

From February 2020 to July 2022, the gang ran a slick scam using fake credit agreements and counterfeit ID documents. They passed these to ‘strikers’ — hired drivers tasked with picking up the luxury rides.

In total, 75 vehicles vanished as part of their elaborate scheme. Hertfordshire Constabulary’s thorough investigation nailed 16 suspects, bringing the network crashing down.

Top Crooks Locked Up, Fraudsters Given Suspended Sentences

  • Key offenders Ammir Mukhtar, Mukhtar Ibrahim, Emmanuel Dwamena, Samad Miah, and Sadiq Miah received prison time for fraud and car theft.
  • Gerado Ortiz and Hassan Kijenyi, who faked MOT papers, got suspended sentences after admitting fraud.

Detective Sergeant Will Daglish said, “The gang organisers paid lower-ranking drivers to collect and deliver the vehicles. Then, they completely re-identified the stolen cars to fool buyers and dodge recovery efforts once exposed.”

The ‘Strikers’ Face Justice Too

Drivers who grabbed the stolen vehicles didn’t escape punishment. Mohammed Jeilani, Leroy Gayle, Jamarl Lambert, Henry Galloway, Eamon Hannigan, Martin Herbert, Ahmed Omer Ali, and James Layzell got sentences ranging from jail time to community orders.

Jon Radford, head of investigations at the Insurance Fraud Bureau, praised the joint crackdown. He urged the public to stay alert against identity theft and flag suspicious activity via the bureau’s confidential CheatLine.

This high-profile bust shows law enforcement’s grit in shutting down slick crime rings and protecting the public’s wallets.
