Havant welcomes a familiar face as its 50th Mayor, with Councillor Peter Wade taking up the esteemed position following today’s Annual Council Meeting and Mayor-Making ceremony. Stepping into the role previously held by Councillor Rosy Raines, Councillor Wade returns to the mayoralty for his second term.

Expressing his gratitude in his acceptance speech, Councillor Wade extended heartfelt thanks to outgoing Mayor Councillor Rosy Raines, fellow councillors for their endorsement, and the residents of the Waterloo ward for their unwavering support.

It is my second time as Mayor and it is tremendous to be appointed again and to have the faith of all those who elected me in,” remarked Councillor Wade. “I look forward to working with my wife Janet Wade (Mayoress of Havant), the new councillors who have been elected, and officers.”

Taking on the mantle, Councillor Wade also acknowledged Reverend Chris Spencer, who will serve as Chaplain for this Mayoral year. He announced Havant Men’s Shed as the focus of his main charity fundraising efforts during his tenure.

In bidding farewell to her role, outgoing Mayor Councillor Rosy Raines conveyed her best wishes to Councillor Wade for a fruitful Mayoral year. Reflecting on her term, she expressed profound gratitude to her chosen charity, the RNLI, and extended appreciation to colleagues, family, friends, residents of Hayling East Ward, and all those who have supported her throughout her tenure.

“It was a huge honour and a great pleasure to be able to represent the residents of the Havant borough,” Councillor Raines shared. “To meet so many residents in the borough; to be the King’s representative; to be able to make a difference to some, and hopefully make them smile too.”

With a new Mayor at the helm, Havant looks ahead to continued dedication, community engagement, and progress under the leadership of Councillor Wade.
