The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as a substantial band of rain moves across the UK, threatening to bring flooding, thunderstorms, and lightning. The warning is in effect from 3 PM today until 9 AM on Tuesday for the northwest of England, including parts of Merseyside, Wales, and the South West of England.
According to the Met Office, much of the country can expect outbreaks of rain today, with some areas experiencing heavy and thundery downpours. These conditions could lead to localized flooding, slower travel times, and a small chance that homes and businesses may be flooded. The heavy rain may also be accompanied by lightning, adding to the hazards.
Met Office Advisory:
- Flood Risk: Check if your property is at risk of flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
- Travel Delays: Check road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, and amend travel plans if necessary to avoid delays.
- Power Cuts: Prepare for potential power cuts by gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other essential items.
