Air Ambulance Scrambles to Southampton School Medical Drama
A medical emergency rocked Wildern School in Hedge End, Southampton, this morning. During a Year 7 assembly, a staff member fell ill, sparking an urgent air ambulance response and forcing the school into a temporary lockdown.
Lockdown and Quick Action Shake Up School Day
Emergency services were called promptly on Tuesday, with the air ambulance landing shortly after to tend to the ill staff member, who is now reported in stable condition. To keep everyone safe, Wildern School swiftly went into lockdown, locking down classrooms and holding students in lessons while the situation unfolded.
Support for Students as Parents Called to Collect
The school sent a statement to parents confirming the lockdown: “This morning we have had to lock down the school due to a member of staff being taken ill in the Year 7 assembly. We called out the air ambulance and kept students in lessons.”
Recognising the potential trauma, especially for those who witnessed the incident, the school offered Year 7 pupils the option to leave early. Parents were advised to pick children up from the sports hall and text upon arrival so students could be safely escorted to the car park. Crucially, students leaving early must be collected; walking home alone is not permitted due to the sensitive nature of the morning.
Police Stay Clear, Ambulance Service and School Yet to Comment
South Central Ambulance Service and Wildern School have been contacted for updates but had not responded by press time. Hampshire Constabulary confirmed they were not involved in the incident response.
