British Army Rolls Out Elite Training to Shield Ukraine’s Vital Infrastructure
The UK’s Royal Engineers have launched a high-impact training programme aimed at helping Ukraine protect its critical national infrastructure (CNI) from ruthless Russian missile and drone strikes. With winter looming, this move could save thousands of civilian lives by strengthening Ukraine’s defences against Putin’s brutal assault.
War-Torn Ukraine Learns to Fight Back Against Russian Attacks
Russian bombardments have devastated Ukraine’s essential facilities, threatening power, water, and transport networks—and the people relying on them. The new training teaches Ukrainian specialists how to spot vulnerabilities, calculate blast impacts, and deploy physical and aerial barriers to fend off attacks.
Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said: “The resilience of the Ukrainian people is incredible. This tailored training will help protect lives this winter when reliable energy is absolutely critical.”
From Sandbags to Sophisticated Defence: A Vital Upgrade
The two-week course, developed after Ukraine’s urgent request for enhanced energy sector protection, goes well beyond simple defences like sandbags. Instead, it provides hands-on experience using real-life scenarios at UK training sites like gasworks, military airstrips, and ports.
Major Michael Suddaby of the 63 Works Group Royal Engineers praised the Ukrainian trainees’ enthusiasm and skill, confident the new techniques will be put to use back home immediately.
