Police Hunt Hackney Cab Driver After Shocking Liverpool Assault
Detectives probing a serious sexual offence in Liverpool city centre are urgently calling on a hackney cab driver to come forward with vital information.
Grim Incident in Early Hours of August 26
The offence took place on Fleet Street at around 5:30am on August 26. An 18-year-old woman is now receiving support from Merseyside Police’s specialized Unity Team, who handle such sensitive cases.
Man Held, But Investigation Far From Over
A 34-year-old Liverpool man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and possession of cannabis, a Class B drug. However, cops believe the hackney driver who picked up the victim and her friend near Lloyds Bank on Hannover Street about 30 minutes after the attack holds key information.
Detective Inspector Leanne Toole: “Although we have made an arrest, we are urging the hackney cab driver to please come forward. Your information could be instrumental in helping us determine what exactly transpired.”
Community Urged to Help Crack Case
Inspector Toole reassured locals that a thorough investigation is underway. Police want anyone with relevant details or CCTV, mobile phone, or dashcam footage from the early hours of August 26 to get in touch immediately.
