Trowbridge Man Jailed for Injuring Police Officer in Vehicle Incident Near Devizes

Khyron Smart-Mullin, 20, from Clare Avenue, Trowbridge, has been sentenced to 22 months in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including actual bodily harm (ABH) and dangerous driving. The sentencing took place at Swindon Crown Court on Monday, July 22.

The incident occurred on June 1, when a Wiltshire Police officer approached a parked white Dacia Jogger Expression in a field off Conscience Lane, Rowde, near Devizes. As the officer neared the vehicle, Smart-Mullin drove at him, causing injuries that necessitated hospital treatment. The officer sustained injuries severe enough to require immediate medical attention but has since returned to restricted duties.

Following the assault, Smart-Mullin fled the scene at high speed, prompting a comprehensive investigation that led to his arrest and subsequent charges. In addition to ABH and dangerous driving, Smart-Mullin was also found guilty of operating a vehicle without insurance and a driving license.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Cooper commented on the case, highlighting the peril officers face while performing their duties. “This case is just another stark reminder of the dangers officers face whilst on duty, day in, day out,” said Cooper. He praised the investigative team for their swift action in bringing Smart-Mullin to justice, emphasizing that the defendant’s actions showed a “total disregard for the work police officers do to keep our communities safe.

Besides the prison term, Smart-Mullin has been disqualified from driving. He will be required to pass a retest if he wishes to obtain a driving license again, which cannot happen for another three years and 11 months following his release.
