Met Police Crack Down on ‘Pure Anti-Social Behaviour’
Scotland Yard confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that those arrested face charges including assaulting emergency workers and carrying offensive weapons. More arrests are expected as officers clamp down on the chaos.
A video posted by the Met showed riot cops advancing with shields as bottles flew. The police slammed the disturbances as “pure anti-social behaviour,” stressing this was no protest but deliberate disorder.
“Approximately 50 people gathered in North End Road, Croydon with clear intent to disrupt and fuel disorder,” the Met said. “They dragged and threw objects down the road and threw bottles at officers. Officers are moving in numbers to make arrests.”
Heavy Police Presence Across London as Tensions Rise
Earlier today, 1,300 public order officers were deployed across London amid swirling rumours of unrest. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine warned: “We will not tolerate any disorder and will make arrests.”
Backing them were mounted units, dog handlers, intelligence teams, and forensic experts. Cutting-edge facial recognition tech was deployed to identify offenders—even those masked up.
“No-one wants to be caught up in potentially violent and criminal behaviour,” Valentine said, pledging a firm police response.
