Man, 48, Dies After Brutal Early Morning Assault in North Tyneside
Emergency crews raced to North Tyneside just after 5am on Sunday following reports of a violent disturbance. They found John Smyth, 48, seriously injured in what police are treating as a savage assault. Despite desperate medical efforts, Mr Smyth was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Tragic Death of Glasgow Man New to North Tyneside
Mr Smyth, originally from Glasgow, had recently moved from the Derby area to North Tyneside. His grieving family are now receiving support from specially trained officers as they come to terms with this devastating loss.
A police spokesperson said, “Our thoughts remain firmly with John’s family and loved ones following their incredibly tragic loss. We continue to offer any support they need and ask that their privacy is respected as they process the events of the last 36 hours.”
One Suspect Held, Another Released
Two men, aged 41 and 34, were arrested on suspicion of murder. The 41-year-old suspect remains in custody while the 34-year-old has been released with no further action. Police investigations are ongoing.
