Car Fire on M2 Between Faversham and Sittingbourne Causes Traffic Jams

A car fire on the M2 between Faversham and Sittingbourne has caused significant traffic delays this evening. A dark-coloured car was engulfed in flames when the fire erupted from the vehicle’s bonnet.

The incident occurred on the London-bound carriageway, between Junction 6 for Faversham and Junction 5 for Sittingbourne. Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, 8 October 2024. Two fire engines responded, and firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus, used high-pressure hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. The fire was fully under control by 7:00 p.m.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

As a result of the blaze, all traffic was temporarily held on the London-bound side of the motorway while emergency services managed the situation. National Highways reported that queues are expected to clear by approximately 7:45 p.m. Around the same time, traffic reports indicated that a lane on the same stretch was closed due to a broken-down car, further exacerbating delays.
