Car Fire Sparks Chaos on M2 Between Faversham and Sittingbourne
A fiery blaze on the M2 has caused a headline-grabbing traffic nightmare this evening. A dark-coloured car erupted in flames on the London-bound carriageway, sending plumes of smoke between Junction 6 (Faversham) and Junction 5 (Sittingbourne).
Firefighters Race to Extinguish Flames
Kent Fire and Rescue Service raced to the scene at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, 8 October 2024. Two fire engines arrived swiftly, with crews in breathing apparatus using high-pressure hose reel jets to douse the inferno. By 7:00 p.m., the fire was under control, bringing some relief.
“Thankfully, no one was hurt,” a spokesperson confirmed. “The cause of the fire is still under investigation.”
Traffic Chaos Intensifies – Queues Expected Until 7:45 p.m.
All London-bound traffic was temporarily halted as emergency teams battled the blaze. National Highways warned that queues may last until 7:45 p.m. Adding to the misery, a broken-down car on the same M2 stretch closed a lane, piling on the delays.
Motorists are urged to seek alternative routes or expect slow-moving traffic for the foreseeable future.
