Police are seeking public assistance following a fireworks incident that left a young boy with serious injuries in the Stewartstown Road area of Dunmurry on Saturday, October 12.
According to Belfast Area Chief Inspector Dunne, the incident occurred around 20:30 when a group of youths allegedly threw a firework at a 12-year-old boy, striking him in the face. The victim was rushed to hospital with a severe eye injury.
“This incident was traumatic to both the young male and his family,” said Chief Inspector Dunne. “We are appealing to anyone with information to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1484 12/10/24.”

As Halloween approaches, authorities are urging parents and guardians to be vigilant about their children’s activities and to educate them on the dangers of mishandling fireworks. Chief Inspector Dunne stressed the potential consequences, stating, “They could injure themselves or others, and end up with a criminal record which would impact their future employment and travel prospects.”
The police also reminded the public about fireworks regulations, highlighting that it is illegal to possess, sell, handle, or use fireworks without a proper licence. Violators can face fines of up to £5,000.
Local police are working in partnership with other agencies to combat the illegal sale of fireworks and address anti-social behaviour. Residents are encouraged to report any related incidents to the police by calling 101, or 999 in emergencies.
