Detectives are offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person responsible for the brutal stabbing of 23-year-old Camille Gordon, a student and part-time hostess, who was murdered outside her workplace in Soho on 1 March 2004.
Camille, who was training to be a nursery assistant, was killed on the doorstep of the Blue Bunny Club on Archer Street. Despite extensive investigations by the Metropolitan Police over the past 20 years, her killer has not been identified.
In a renewed appeal aired on the BBC’s Crimewatch Live today (Wednesday, 16 October), detectives hope to gather new leads and catch Camille’s murderer.
Detective Inspector Amanda Greig, who leads the investigation from the Met’s Specialist Casework Team, said:
“It may have been more than 20 years since Camille was brutally murdered, but her family remains heartbroken. They want answers, and so do we. We are now offering a £20,000 reward for information that leads to the successful charge and conviction of the person responsible. A lot can change in 20 years—perhaps you are now in a position to speak out or have information you didn’t share at the time.”
Camille, born in Jamaica, came to the UK in 2001 to study and moved to London in 2003 for better career prospects. She worked part-time as a hostess at the Blue Bunny Club to support her training. On the night of her murder, a man who had been a customer at the club earlier returned, and Camille was stabbed shortly after. She collapsed inside the club, and despite the efforts of emergency services, she died from a single stab wound to the heart.
Detectives have released enhanced CCTV footage of a man they believe to be the suspect, who was seen entering Piccadilly Circus Tube station after the attack. The suspect is described as black, aged 20-25, 5’5″-5’8″, and wearing a dark jacket with a large Cleveland Indians logo, dark jeans, white trainers, and a baseball cap.
Two days after the murder, a man came to Kennington Police Station asking to speak to CID about the case but left before officers arrived. This man is described as white, around 35 years old, 5’8″, with a skinny build, defined cheekbones, and light brown hair. Detectives are urging him to come forward.
