Lidl Launches Rival Christmas Cola Truck Tour to Challenge Coca-Cola’s Holiday Tradition

Lidl has announced the launch of its own Christmas cola truck tour, challenging Coca-Cola’s iconic red truck as it rolls out across the UK this festive season. Just days after Coca-Cola confirmed the return of its beloved Christmas truck tour, Lidl revealed that it too would be spreading holiday cheer with a truck promoting its own-brand Freeway cola.

The Lidl Christmas truck, decked out in festive red, will visit nine cities across the UK, starting from November 14. Each stop will feature over 2,000 free gift boxes, food samples, and the chance for visitors to submit a personal Christmas wish — some of which Lidl promises to grant.

Joanna Gomer, Marketing Director at Lidl GB, shared the motivation behind the new tour: “Giving back to the communities we serve is really important to us, and our exciting new Freeway truck allows us to get right into the heart of them this year.”

Meanwhile, Coca-Cola’s 2024 Christmas truck tour is also set to kick off later this month, with visits to key UK destinations as the brand aims to promote holiday kindness with its “The World Needs More Santas” campaign. In addition to the tour, Coca-Cola will support FareShare, the UK’s largest food redistribution charity, by donating the equivalent of a meal for each visitor who attends, aiming to provide up to one million meals.

Lidl’s tour comes as a playful twist in the competitive retail space, reminiscent of previous rivalries like Aldi vs. M&S over caterpillar cakes. With both brands hitting the road this holiday season, the festive truck tour rivalry promises a bit of extra Christmas cheer for communities around the UK.
