A 34-year-old man has been charged with two counts of possession of an offensive weapon after an incident outside the Houses of Parliament. The Metropolitan Police reported that Lewis Allington, from March, Cambridgeshire, was detained following reports of a person carrying knives near the iconic Carriage Gates entrance.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a visible police response, with multiple vehicles stationed outside the gates and the area temporarily cordoned off for public safety. The entrance to the Palace of Westminster was also briefly closed as officers managed the situation.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed, “A man has been charged following an incident outside the Houses of Parliament on Tuesday, November 12. Lewis Allington, 34, of March, Cambridgeshire, was charged on Wednesday, 13 November, with two offences of being in possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.”
Allington is scheduled to appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 14. Authorities have assured the public that security around Parliament remains a priority and that any incidents in the area are swiftly addressed.
