Teen Found Guilty of Stabbing Former Friend to Death in East London Park

A 16-year-old boy has been convicted of manslaughter for fatally stabbing 15-year-old Pharell Garcia in an East London park, a harrowing case that gripped the Old Bailey today. The teen, who cannot be named, was cleared of murder after the jury’s lengthy 15-hour deliberation.

Chilling Park Attack Caught on Camera

The court heard how the defendant, then just 15, stabbed Pharell in the heart during a violent confrontation at Stellman Close, E5. CCTV footage revealed the accused arriving at the park with his hood up, chasing the wounded victim until he collapsed before fleeing and disposing of the knife.

Despite Pharell’s desperate need for help, the defendant made no attempt to assist. Instead, he tried to cover his tracks, including asking his mother to remove items from their home and even talking about fleeing to Portugal to escape justice.

Knife Obsession and Damning Evidence

Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command revealed troubling findings about the teen’s fixation on knives. “We uncovered 43 photos and videos showing him handling weapons in the weeks leading up to the attack,” said DCI Allen.

Snapchat chats between the two teens emerged from the days before the incident, adding context to their fraught relationship. Forensics confirmed the recovered multi-tool was linked to both the victim and defendant, sealing the prosecution’s case.

Community Shock and Police Resolve

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway addressed the devastating toll of knife crime in Hackney and Tower Hamlets. “This tragic case shows the ongoing battle against youth violence,” he said. “We’re working hard with local partners to tackle both the root causes and immediate threats.”

Police and London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene on July 23, but Pharell was pronounced dead at 4:05 pm.

Next Steps: Sentencing and Prevention

The teen will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on April 17, 2025. This case has reignited urgent calls for stronger youth violence prevention and community safety across London boroughs.
