Gun haul seized in dramatic Wembley taxi stop

On the evening of Thursday, 13 April, Met Police’s Specialist Crime unit pulled over a taxi on the A4088 in Wembley. Armed firearms specialists backed up the operation.

Five handguns found in taxi boot

Officers discovered a rucksack in the boot containing five viable handguns and ammunition. All weapons have been confiscated for forensic tests.

Man in twenties arrested, driver cleared

A man in his twenties was arrested for possession of firearms and ammunition. He remains in custody at a West London police station. The taxi driver was not charged.

Police vow to crack down on illegal guns

Detective Superintendent Victoria Sullivan said: “I have no doubt that lives will have been saved by removing these highly dangerous weapons from our streets. London and Londoners are safer because of it.”

“Anyone involved in illegal firearm activity can rest assured we will investigate and bring them to justice.”
