An 81-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life after a house fire in Gosport led to the tragic death of a man in his 60s.
Emergency Response
Emergency services, including Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and the fire service, were called to a property on Exmouth Road just before 5:20 pm on Friday, 29 November, following reports of a blaze.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the body of a man in his 60s inside the house. Police subsequently arrested an 81-year-old man at the scene. He was taken to the hospital with injuries sustained prior to the arrival of emergency services.
Investigation Underway
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
“We have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after the body of a man in his 60s was found at an address in Exmouth Road, Gosport. The fire service was already at the property when police arrived due to a fire having been reported.”
The deceased man’s family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.

The investigation is in its early stages, and forensic teams are working at the scene to determine the cause of the fire and establish the events leading up to the tragedy.
