Further Charges Brought Against Man Jailed for Murdering His Wife Over 25 Years Ago

A man who was convicted of murdering his wife over 25 years ago has been hit with additional criminal charges after new developments in the case.

Andrew Griggs, who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife, Debbie Griggs, in 1999, is now facing charges of perverting the course of justice and obstructing a coroner in the execution of their duty.

Debbie, 34, and pregnant at the time, was reported missing by her husband from their home in Cross Road, Deal, Kent, in May 1999. Despite initially denying any involvement in her disappearance, Andrew Griggs was found guilty of her murder in October 2019 after a cold case review by Kent Police detectives. The case, which had remained unsolved for over two decades, resulted in a conviction following an extensive investigation.

In 2022, Debbie’s remains were discovered buried in the garden of a residential property in Dorset, prompting the new charges against her husband. The discovery led investigators to charge Griggs with further offenses related to obstructing the coroner’s duties and attempting to deceive the course of justice.

Andrew Griggs is scheduled to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 13 February 2025, to face these additional charges. The investigation into the case remains ongoing, with Kent Police continuing to pursue justice for Debbie Griggs and her family.
