Massive Search Launches After Reports of Person in Water Off Selsey Coast
Emergency crews scrambled off the coast of Selsey on Sunday after reports of someone spotted in the water near Selsey Beach.
Two Rescue Helicopters and Lifeboats Deployed
HM Coastguard kicked into action at 11:20am, sending two search and rescue helicopters into the skies. Teams from Selsey and Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue also rushed to the scene. Meanwhile, the RNLI launched both inshore and all-weather lifeboats from Selsey to scour the waters.
Sussex Police Join Hunt After Possible Body Sighting
Sussex Police were alerted after a possible lifeless body was reportedly seen in the water around midday. Officers quickly joined the sea rescue effort to assist in the search.
No Sign of Missing Person After Extensive Search
Despite a thorough investigation by the Coastguard, RNLI, and police, no missing person was found, nor anyone in distress. The large-scale operation was stood down by HM Coastguard at 2pm, with Sussex Police confirming the search officially ended at 2:15pm.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward immediately.
