Hero Lifeboat Crew Rescue Blind Dog in Daring Lepe Beach Drama
Cowes Lifeboat launched in a hurry just after 2pm on Tuesday to rescue a blind dog struggling in the cold waters off Lepe Beach, New Forest. The dog’s owner had plunged in to save his beloved pet, sparking a major coastguard operation.
Man Jumps Into Action to Save Blind Dog
southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton and Lymington Coastguards were already on the scene when the lifeboat arrived. The owner was being helped ashore but the blind dog was still in danger, spotted by a Coastguard helicopter circling overhead.
Daring Lifeboat Helm Swims to the Rescue
Lifeboat Helm Mark Harker expertly manoeuvred the boat near the struggling dog before leaping into the water. He brought the canine safely aboard the lifeboat just in time.
The dog’s condition was critical, but the crew’s swift action saved its life. Meanwhile, the owner was taken into the care of Southampton Coastguard and awaited ambulance treatment after his brave rescue effort.
Air and Sea Team-Up Saves the Day
While the helicopter stayed on overhead, Cowes Lifeboat returned to the beach to transfer a paramedic from the air crew to assist the exhausted man. Ambulance staff soon arrived and declared the man well.
Both dog and owner were reunited safely. The lifeboat stood down and headed back to station by 3.10pm, ending a nail-biting rescue mission.
