Police Seize Lethal Machetes After Music Video Shoot in Croydon
A quick police swoop in Shrublands, Croydon, has seen a stash of dangerous weapons confiscated – including machetes with blades reaching up to 20 inches. The haul came after officers interrupted a group filming what they claimed was a music video.
Suspicious Vehicle Tip-off Sparks Raid
The drama unfolded when PC Lewis Stuart flagged a suspicious vehicle at Longheath Gardens on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 12. Officers from the Proactive Unit Task Force arrived to find a crew setting up for a music video shoot.
As police closed in, two men panicked, chucking away a lock knife and sprinting from the scene.
Machetes and Lock Knives Seized, But No Arrests
After searching the area, officers uncovered more weapons:
- Lock knives
- Large machetes with blades up to 20 inches long
All these deadly weapons were taken off the streets. However, no arrests were made at the scene relating to the machetes.
Ongoing Inquiry into Possible Gang Links
The Metropolitan Police’s South Area Command in Croydon confirmed investigations are continuing to determine if those involved have connections to criminal gangs or activity.
“Thanks to the officers for their swift response in helping keep the community safe,” the Croydon MPS said on social media.
Local residents have welcomed the police move amid rising fears over knife crime and gang violence in the area.
