Van Driver on the Run After Tragic Crash Kills Toddler in Manchester
A three-year-old girl has died after a van crashed into a tram in Manchester city centre on Saturday morning. The driver fled the scene, sparking a desperate manhunt by Greater Manchester Police.
Horrific Smash on Mosley Street
The crash happened at 9:56am when a van collided with a tram on Mosley Street, forcing the tram onto the pavement and into a pedestrian zone. The little girl was struck and rushed to hospital but sadly died shortly after arrival.
Van Driver Flees – Police Launch Citywide Search
Police say the van driver fled immediately following the collision. Officers are chasing several leads in an urgent bid to track down the culprit.
“Firstly, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the family of the victim. This is a tragic incident where a young girl has sadly lost her life despite the responding officers’ best attempts to save her,” said Assistant Chief Constable Stephanie Parker.
“Our investigation is ongoing, and we are following multiple leads to locate the driver who fled the scene. This is being treated as an isolated incident, with no wider threat to the community.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Greater Manchester Police are urgently calling on anyone who saw the crash or the van driver fleeing to come forward. Drivers with dashcam footage from around Mosley Street, Booth Street, and Nicholas Street at the time are especially urged to get in touch.
“We are appealing to any witnesses and anyone who may have seen the van driver leave his vehicle to get in touch with us,” added ACC Parker.
