Man Fighting for Life After Moped Crash on A2 in Blackheath

A man in his 40s is in critical condition after a serious moped crash on the A2 in Blackheath early this morning (February 24).

The incident occurred at around 4:15 AM on Shooters Hill Road near Maze Hill. Emergency services, including officers from the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance, rushed to the scene following reports of the collision.

Paramedics found the man with severe injuries and immediately transported him to hospital, where he remains in critical condition. His injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Police have confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Road Closures and Ongoing Investigation

Shooters Hill Road remains closed in both directions between Charlton Way and Stratheden Road while police conduct their investigation. The closure has caused significant traffic disruption during the morning commute, and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called to a collision involving a moped in Shooters Hill, SE10 around 04:15hrs on Monday 24 February. Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance. One man in his 40s was taken to hospital where his injuries are thought to be life-threatening. No other vehicle was involved.”

Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Officers are now appealing to the public for information and any dashcam footage that may have captured the moments leading up to the incident.

“Anyone with information, including dash camera footage which may have captured the incident, is asked to call 111 quoting the reference 712/24FEB,” the police spokesperson added.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area while emergency services continue their work, and local residents are asked to remain patient as the road closure remains in effect.
