£1.7 Million Cannabis Bust as Sussex Police Smash Drug Ring

Major Drug Haul Shakes Sussex

Sussex Police have smashed a massive weed operation, seizing over 1,740 cannabis plants worth a staggering £1.7 million. The crackdown, part of a nationwide effort, saw 17 arrests as officers teamed up with national and regional forces to dismantle organised crime networks.

The meticulously planned raids hit 19 locations across Sussex, netting not just the cannabis haul but also £15,000 in cash, Class A drugs, and £2,000 in other criminal property.

Eastbourne Industrial Unit Raided

One of the standout raids took place at an industrial unit in Eastbourne’s Maple Road where officers uncovered around 500 cannabis plants. Two men, Eljohn Majika and Klevis Kurtie, both 22 with no fixed address, were nabbed on-site. They’ve pleaded guilty at Brighton Magistrates’ Court and are set for sentencing in March.

A third man, 29, was arrested on suspicion of producing Class B drugs and released on bail as investigations continue.

Brighton Raids Lead to More Charges

On 27 February, police targeted two properties in Brighton, leading to the charging of seven individuals with drug supply offences. The force’s strong-arm tactics clearly hit the criminal supply chains hard.

Police Vow to Clean Up Sussex

“Partnership operations like this are vital in disrupting organised crime groups spreading harm through our communities,” said Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Dias. “The illegal drug trade fuels violence, anti-social behaviour, and exploits vulnerable people, including children.”

DCI Dias pledges Sussex will stay tough on dealers and urges the public to report any suspicious activity. Tip-offs can be made via 101, online, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
