Seaford Man Found Guilty of Years of Abuse and Control

Mitchell Maybank, 33, has been convicted at Lewes Crown Court for coercive and controlling behaviour and causing actual bodily harm to a woman over several years. The victim, a woman in her 30s, endured physical and psychological abuse between 2017 and 2020, with Maybank controlling every aspect of her life.

Repeated Assaults Left Victim Fighting for Life

The abuse was relentless, including violent assaults so severe the woman sometimes lost consciousness. Despite denying all charges, Maybank was found guilty on March 11 of coercive control and causing actual bodily harm. However, he was cleared of three rape charges reported by the victim, who bravely came forward in March 2021.

Police Praise Victim’s Bravery as Sentencing Looms

Detective Constable Adam Rose, who led the investigation, hailed the victim’s courage. He stated:

“Violent and controlling behaviour ruins lives, and we will do all we can to protect victims and hold offenders to account. The victim has shown incredible bravery to see this process through to conviction despite his denials. Our message to victims of abuse is clear – we are here to help, will get you to safety, and fight for the justice you deserve.”

Maybank is set to be sentenced on Friday, April 25, at a court date yet to be confirmed.
