Four Men Charged with GBH After Man’s Death at Upminster Golf Club
Fatal Brawl at Fen Lane Golf Club
Detectives probing the death of a 37-year-old man from Hornchurch have charged four men with grievous bodily harm (GBH). The incident exploded at a golf club on Fen Lane, Upminster, late on Saturday, 7 December.
Victim Dies After Being Restrained
Police rushed to the scene at around 10.30pm after reports of a violent altercation. Officers found the man restrained but collapsed shortly after. Despite first aid and rapid hospital treatment, he died two days later on Monday, 9 December.
Four Arrested and Charged
- Paulo Pinto, 50, Braxted Road, Rivenhall
- Gaetano Schembri, 24, Buxton Road, Grays
- Shkelzen Mataj, 39, Tomlinson Avenue, Luton
- Melchione Schembri, 58, Highfield Gardens, Grays
All four were arrested at the scene and formally charged with GBH on 9 December. They remain in custody and appeared before Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on 10 December.
Investigation and Appeal for Witnesses
Specialist Crime North (Homicide) detectives are leading the investigation. The victim’s identity is pending formal confirmation, but his family have been informed. A post-mortem examination is planned.
