Fire Crews Battle Roof Blaze in Canterbury’s Wincheap Area

Firefighters tackled a significant roof blaze in the Wincheap area of Canterbury this afternoon, with emergency services responding swiftly to contain the flames and protect nearby properties.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene at just after 3pm following reports of a fire affecting the roof of a building. A total of five fire engines, along with a height vehicle, were deployed. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used high-pressure hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the blaze.

The Volunteer Response Team was also on hand to support residents affected by the incident. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and all occupants were safely accounted for.

Kent Police assisted at the scene to manage traffic and ensure public safety, as firefighters worked to bring the situation under control. The blaze was extinguished by 3.53pm, but crews remained on site for some time to damp down hotspots and assess damage.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and fire investigators are expected to examine the site further over the coming days.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has thanked the public for their cooperation and praised the quick response of all emergency teams involved.
