Tragic Fall: 90-Year-Old Man Dies While Watching Neighbour’s Work

Grandad’s Fatal Mishap

A 90-year-old man, George Napper, died after falling from a first-floor window while watching construction at a neighbour’s home in Dagenham. The heartbreaking accident happened at his Rosedale Road house on the morning of April 4.

Family Witness Terrifying Moment

Mr Napper’s family were outside in the garden when they saw him leaning out of the second bedroom window that overlooked the back garden. They reported that he had been observing building work next door just moments before he tragically fell.

Inquest Opens as Police Investigate

East London Coroner’s Court opened an inquest into the death on April 22. Senior Coroner Graeme Irvine described the death as “unnatural but not suspicious.” The case was referred by the Metropolitan Police following the fatal fall.

“It would appear that members of the family were in the garden. They reported that Mr Napper was observing some building that was being done in a neighbour’s property. The family then saw Mr Napper fall. He unfortunately fell out of the window.” – Coroner Graeme Irvine

Emergency Services Couldn’t Save Him

Despite a rapid response by the London Ambulance Service, Mr Napper was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.20am. A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as “multiple severe traumatic injuries”.

Family Set to Play Key Role in Final Inquest

The coroner has asked the family for a detailed timeline of events and any possible contributing factors. They have the right to view evidence and question witnesses during the full inquest scheduled for October.

“Inquests are held in the public interest to investigate deaths from unnatural causes and whether future similar deaths might be avoidable,” the coroner added.
