Two Illegal E-Scooters Seized by Derbyshire Police

Police officers from Derbyshire’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) have seized two more illegal e-scooters as part of ongoing efforts to tackle unlawful use of the devices on public roads.

The seizures were made by RPU bikers during patrols this week, with officers confirming that both e-scooters were being operated illegally and removed from use.

In the UK, privately-owned e-scooters are currently illegal to ride on public roads, pavements, or cycle lanes unless they are part of an approved government rental trial. Riders risk having the devices seized, facing fines, and receiving points on their driving licence.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said:

“We are continuing to take action against the illegal use of private e-scooters on public highways. These devices can pose a serious risk to both the riders and other road users.

Two more illegal e-scooters have been removed from the roads, making Derbyshire a safer place for everyone.”

Police Reminder on E-Scooter Rules

Derbyshire Police are reminding the public that:

  • Private e-scooters can only legally be used on private land with the landowner’s permission.

  • Use on public roads or pavements without approval is prohibited.

  • Riders caught using illegal e-scooters could face prosecution, vehicle seizure, and penalties on their driving licence.

Officers pledged to continue enforcement operations across the county to ensure road safety is maintained.
