Derbyshire Police Crack Down on Illegal E-Scooters
Derbyshire’s Roads Policing Unit (RPU) has seized two more illegal e-scooters this week. The bikes were caught being ridden unlawfully on public roads, marking another step in the force’s crackdown on dangerous scooter use.
Riders Risk Fines, Seizures and Points
In the UK, privately-owned e-scooters are banned from public roads, pavements, and cycle lanes unless they form part of an official government rental trial. Anyone caught flouting the rules faces having their scooter confiscated, steep fines, and points on their driving licence.
“We are continuing to take action against the illegal use of private e-scooters on public highways. These devices can pose a serious risk to both the riders and other road users. Two more illegal e-scooters have been removed from the roads, making Derbyshire a safer place for everyone,” said a Derbyshire Police spokesperson.
Police Warn: Know the Scooter Rules
- Private e-scooters are only legal on private land with the landowner’s permission.
- Riding on public roads or pavements without approval is banned.
- Illegal riders can expect prosecution, vehicle seizure, and points on their licence.
Officers promise to keep up the pressure across Derbyshire to keep the roads safe for all.
