Policing officers, working alongside the Commercial Vehicle Unit and DVSA colleagues, have carried out a successful targeted road safety operation on the M4 motorway between Junctions 11 and 12 near Reading.
The operation focused on improving HGV and LGV road safety standards, tackling driver non-compliance, and ensuring safer conditions for all road users.

Key Findings from the Operation
Over the course of the day, 25 vehicles were stopped and thoroughly inspected. Officers uncovered a range of serious offences, including:
One HGV driver was slapped with a £1,500 fine for breaching strict drivers’ hours regulations. Several other vehicles were prohibited from continuing their journeys, and numerous fines and penalty tickets were issued.

A spokesperson for the Roads Policing Unit said:
“Operations like these help ensure the safety of all road users. Heavy goods vehicles that are not properly maintained or operated within the law pose a real risk on our roads.”
Officers also praised drivers who were found to be fully compliant with all safety regulations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining roadworthiness and following legal requirements.
Continued Commitment to Road Safety
Authorities have pledged to continue targeted enforcement across the region to drive down offences among commercial vehicle operators. Future operations are already being planned to crack down on dangerous driving practices and ensure vehicles meet safety standards.
Motorists are urged to regularly check their vehicles, comply with drivers’ hours laws, and ensure all loads are properly secured before setting off.
