Officer Left ‘Screaming in Pain’ After Portsmouth Arrest Drama

A man has been arrested after a dramatic incident in Portsmouth that left a police officer screaming in agony on the ground.

The chaos unfolded behind Farm Foods near Clifton Street, Fratton, at around 1.30pm on Wednesday, 7 May, where around 30 officers were seen flooding the scene. Shocking video footage shared online shows an officer writhing in pain just feet away from a detained man.

According to Hampshire Police, officers had attempted to stop a man behind the supermarket when the confrontation erupted.
A spokesperson confirmed:

“An officer was reportedly assaulted and suffered an ankle injury requiring hospital treatment.”

A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. He remains in custody.

A white van was also seized during the incident as part of the police investigation.

The injured officer’s current condition has not been disclosed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
