RAINFORD RACER: Reckless Driver Hits 135mph in Front of Police

A driver who treated the Rainford Bypass like his own personal racetrack got an instant reality check this week after being clocked at a staggering 135mph — right as police arrived on scene.

Despite having received a Section 59 warning for antisocial driving only two months ago, the motorist wasted no time showing officers exactly why they were called out.

Instant Karma

The high-speed stunt took place during a targeted police response to community complaints about drivers using the bypass as a race circuit.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson confirmed the vehicle was seized on the spot, and that the driver may face further prosecution.

“If you think you’re on Silverstone, we’ve got news for you — this is a public road, not a racetrack,” said one officer.

Seized and Off the Road

Under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002, officers can seize a vehicle if it’s being driven in a manner causing alarm, distress or annoyance — especially if it’s not the first offence.

Police reminded drivers that previous warnings carry weight, and repeat behaviour can lead to instant vehicle removal.

Try a Track Day Instead

Officers closed their message with a note of advice:

“Want to hit 135mph? Try a go-kart track. Or better yet, a driving simulator.”

Community members have praised the swift action, with one local posting on X: “Finally! Rainford Bypass isn’t the Monaco Grand Prix. Great job, officers.”
