A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following a dramatic police chase in Lambeth after he was seen snatching a phone near Waterloo.
The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, 15 May, when officers from the South East Interceptors team of the Metropolitan Police witnessed the theft and immediately sprang into action.
According to a police spokesperson from Lambeth MPS, the team pursued and detained the suspect, who was seen fleeing the scene moments after the snatch. Officers praised the swift response, posting on social media:
“SE interceptors 1, Phone Snatchers 0!!”
The tweet added:
“An excellent result in Lambeth last night where the team witnessed, pursued & detained a 15yr old male who they had seen carry out a phone snatch near #Waterloo. #WeOnlyNeedToGetLuckyOnce”
The stolen phone has since been recovered and the teenage suspect taken into custody, where he is expected to be questioned on suspicion of theft and robbery-related offences.
This successful intervention highlights ongoing efforts by police to crack down on moped-enabled crime and phone snatches in central London, particularly in high-footfall areas like Waterloo and the South Bank.
