A fatal fire has claimed the life of one person in Coulsdon, just hours after a separate tragic blaze in North West London killed four people.

Emergency services were called to a property on Coulsdon Road in the early hours of Sunday, 22 May 2025, where they discovered the upstairs of a two-story home engulfed in flames.

Despite the rapid response by firefighters and paramedics, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

A joint investigation has been launched involving London Fire Brigade investigators and Detectives from the  Metropolitan Police.

 


The London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade  has also been contacted for further details.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities have established a crime scene at the location. Burned-out upstairs windows and extensive smoke damage are clearly visible from outside the property, which is situated in the Upland area of Coulsdon.

This incident marks the second fatal fire in under 24 hours, following the devastating North West London blaze that occurred earlier on Sunday morning.

A source for the Metropolitan Police confirmed:

“A full investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. We are working closely with fire experts from the London Fire Brigade.”
