Limehouse Link Tunnel Closed Westbound After Person in Crisis Reported on Tunnel Roof in Poplar

Emergency services rushed to Limehouse Link Tunnel in Poplar, East London, in the early hours of Tuesday morning following reports of a person in crisis threatening to jump from the top of the westbound tunnel entrance.

The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade attended the scene near the junction of Aspen Way and the Limehouse Link Tunnel shortly after 12:14am.

Road Closures and Emergency Response

The incident triggered an immediate closure of the westbound carriageway of the Limehouse Link Tunnel while negotiators and emergency teams worked to bring the situation to a safe resolution. Motorists were advised to avoid the area, with tailbacks quickly building along Aspen Way and adjoining routes including Commercial Road and Canary Wharf access roads.

A police source confirmed the incident was being treated as a mental health crisis and stated:

“Officers remain on scene at the Limehouse Link Tunnel dealing with a concern for the welfare of an individual. Road closures are in place and drivers are urged to seek alternative routes.”

Public Urged Not to Share Live Footage

Authorities also urged the public to refrain from sharing videos or photos online, to respect the privacy and wellbeing of those involved.

There has been no official confirmation yet on whether the individual was safely brought down. The road remains closed as of 1:00am with efforts ongoing.
