A murder investigation has been launched in Streatham, South London, after an 85-year-old man was found dead at a residential property on Churchmore Road, Lambeth.

Emergency services were called to the address at around 1:00pm on Friday, 4 July, following reports from the London Ambulance Service. Officers from the Metropolitan Police arrived to find the elderly man had sustained multiple injuries.

 

 


Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification has not yet taken place, and a post-mortem examination is expected to occur in due course.

A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Specialist Crime Officers Lead the Inquiry

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, from the Met Police’s Specialist Crime Command – South, is leading the investigation. She said:

“We are working hard to piece together the events that unfolded in Churchmore Road yesterday, and offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim and those affected by this tragic incident.”

“I would like to thank those that are speaking to police and supporting the investigation already. We will continue to have an increased presence in the area whilst we continue our enquiries.”

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no other suspects are currently being sought in connection with the case.

Public Appeal for Information

A crime scene remains in place and officers are carrying out door-to-door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area.
