Police have launched an urgent investigation after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted in the churchyard of Reading Minster, located in St Mary’s Butts, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The scene, in the heart of Reading town centre, was cordoned off following the attack. A forensic investigation is now underway.

The victim is described as a woman in her late teens. She is being supported by specially trained officers, police confirmed.

 

 


Police Appeal for Witnesses

No arrests have been made at this stage, and Thames Valley Police have launched an appeal for witnesses and information.

A spokesperson for the force said:

“We are investigating a serious sexual assault that took place in the early hours of Saturday morning in the churchyard of Reading Minster.”

“There will be an increased police presence in the area while we carry out enquiries. We understand incidents of this nature cause significant concern, and we are working hard to identify and locate the person responsible.”

Public Urged to Come Forward

Residents, churchgoers, and those out in Reading town centre late Friday night into Saturday morning are urged to check CCTV, dashcam, or mobile phone footage that may assist detectives.
